Head of School for the Day

The Head of School at Shore looked a little different for a day! Grade 3 student Lincoln B. had big shoes to fill when he stepped into his new interim role, which is an auction item offered in the fall at our annual Fall Flannel Fest, and the aspiring young leader took his newfound role and the fame that came with it in stride. He spent time greeting constituents, dealing with paparazzi, making executive decisions, and overall leading with the poise and grace of a career politician. Mrs. Bock, Head of School, was impressed and complemented Lincoln on his natural leadership skills and positive attitude throughout, which was even more impressive considering the packed schedule that the pair had. Lincoln wasn’t afraid to let us know how exhausted he was after the big day! Being a leader can be a little overwhelming sometimes. After making the final call on crucial leadership decisions such as banning homework for the day and lobbying for the return of the frozen yogurt machine, Lincoln finished his big day with a presentation in front of his Grade 3 class, who were only too eager to hear of his administrative adventures and executive exploits.

While a day full of fanfare and fun as a whole, at the core this tradition is a rare opportunity for our students to connect with their school on a deeper level, and creates a lasting bond between the student and head of school for the remainder of the student’s academic career at Shore. It’s a unique window into the day-to-day life of a head of school and a sneak peek into all the hard work that goes on behind-the-scenes on campus, and for friends of the student, it’s special to see a peer in such a position. Lincoln’s positivity, maturity, and sense of humor made him a perfect candidate for the Head of School for the Day, and we’re already so excited for next year!
