Academics

Our Program

Early LearningPre-K & Kindergarten

At Shore, we embrace and nurture the joy and curiosity that our youngest learners naturally bring with them to school. In our Reggio Emilia-inspired learning spaces and outdoor classrooms, children find a safe place to explore the world and their own interests, and social-emotional growth takes center stage. At the same time, Shore’s early learning program gives children an academic head start, introducing children to the full range of the curriculum they will encounter in the elementary grades.

ElementaryGrades 1-5

Joy and challenge in equal measure define children’s experiences in the elementary grades. Our expert teachers are masters at connecting with children to draw out passions and aptitudes. They find countless ways to engage each individual learner in adventurous education, offering individualized support as students navigate an advanced curriculum grounded in the liberal arts. Recess and physical education nourish the body, and an emphasis on the arts allows creativity to flourish.

Middle SchoolGrades 6-8

In the middle school years, students are actively involved in their own learning experience, especially around the Harkness tables in English, history, and science classrooms. A vibrant and supportive place, Shore’s Upper School is where young people find their voice. Teachers, who are also advisors, encourage their students to step outside their comfort zone to engage with new ideas and experiences. Trips, service learning, and interscholastic sports build connections that last.

Grade 9

Shore’s ninth grade program is a transformative year of discovery, achievement, and personal growth. Ninth graders at Shore are the seniors on campus, and thrive as student leaders, musical lead actors, literary magazine editors, sports team captains, and role models and mentors to the younger students. Off campus, ninth grade students relish travel and service experiences which remain touchstones for graduates long after they depart.
