Welcome Back — Shore Alumni Visit Campus

Over the course of the past few weeks, Shore has had the pleasure of hosting a number of young alumni on campus. These outstanding Shore graduates not only bring with them an expansive knowledge and a variety of perspectives of the world of secondary school and beyond, but also an ability to foster deep connections with students, and we thank them for their generosity with their time and their dedication to the school.

Alum Charlotte Marks ‘16 visited campus to speak with Upper School students about her journey after Shore. In her time playing field hockey at Middlebury College, Charlotte won four NCAA Championships, a remarkable and extremely rare feat in the world of college sports. Winning one NCAA Championship is a lifetime achievement thousands dream of, and to be dominant enough to win four times is almost unheard of. That being said, Marks made a point not to mention field hockey at all for the first portion of her speech, choosing instead to speak directly to the students about what their next years might look like and what’s in store for them after graduation.

“My time at Shore has undoubtedly influenced my journey to where I am today and certain aspects from my days at Shore remain present in my life,” said Marks, who’s genuine delivery from the heart seemed to resonate with the gathered Upper School students. The Shore community is very fortunate to have such a highly accomplished role model in Marks.

Shore also welcomed seven alumni currently in high school for a Young Alumni Panel moderated by their former teacher, Gwen Sneeden. The alumni, representing day, boarding, and public schools, shared reflections with Upper School students and families about their Shore experiences, and advice on the transition to secondary school. The panel was an incredibly valuable opportunity for Upper School students to gain perspective into the variety of options available to them and hear how Shore prepares graduates for success in their future endevors. The alumni spoke fondly of their time at Shore and encouraged current students to embrace the opportunities they have here.

"Being able to build these close relationships with teachers really helps you communicate and gain confidence in yourself, which really helps in high school because you're on your own and you really have to be the person to advocate for yourself if you want to see personal growth. I think this stems from the tight-knit community here," said Surina Bhalla '25.

Following the Young Alumni Panel, Shore alumni from the Classes of 2022 - 2025 joined us on campus for the annual Young Alumni Gathering. Alumni enjoyed connecting with their former classmates and teachers, meeting Head of School Amber Bock, and catching glimpses of their younger selves in the slideshow compiled of photos from their years at Shore.
