Congratulations to Shore’s Upper School winter team athletes and coaches on a successful winter sports season! With great energy all around, the season was filled with highlights. Winter athletes began their journey in late November 2024 and concluded with their final competition in late February 2025. During the season, Shore athletes experienced the thrill of victory and the frustration of defeat while forming new friendships, bonding with coaches, building skills, and exemplifying Shore’s motto, From Each Their Best.
Under the leadership of coaches David Lund and Kevin Murphy, Boys Varsity Basketball enjoyed another strong season on the court. With their collective height, basketball acumen, and camaraderie, this team of eighth graders finished the season with eight wins and just two losses. According to captains Michael E. and Ben B., “a standout moment was our final game against Tower, where we battled hard for a well-earned victory. Our team played top-notch defense and shut down their star player while our offense took over the game. This game showcased our resilience, teamwork, and determination. Beyond the stats, the way we played together, trusted each other, and left everything on the court defined our season.”
The Boys JV Basketball team had good reason to be proud of their season. The squad improved greatly from the year before as the team compiled more wins and points than anticipated at the start of the season. Team captains Jacob B., Zach C., and Noah G. commented that “all of our teammates grew in skill across the season, which was awesome to see, and everyone scored at least once.” Everyone on the team left the season with a great nickname and new skills, thanks to our Coaches Erik Swanson and Cam McNall.
With a large squad and a strong core of returning players, Girls Varsity Basketball played well and picked up seven wins under coaches Bob Snyder and Lynn Pisanelli. Team captains Ellie B., Serena L., and Brynley R. provided excellent leadership and shared that “we were proud of everyone on our team for being able to show up to games and practices with a positive mindset and great energy. It didn’t matter if we were losing or winning; everyone played their hardest, and it showed. Our team was very balanced, and there wasn’t a single player that shone more than others because everyone played so well.”
Shore’s Squash & Paddle program was in full swing throughout the winter. Between off-campus squash & paddle sessions and pickleball at Shore, team members saw vast improvement in their racket skills and court awareness. Led by captains Davy Cowan, Jonathan S., and Lorenzo R., the team enjoyed a more robust schedule than previous seasons with meets vs Brookwood, SquashBusters, and Fay. Jonathan S. noted, “Throughout this season, teammates helped each other by giving one another positive feedback and ways to improve their game. This formed a tight bond between the players on our team, making us better players overall”.
The culminating event of the winter season was the Annual Student vs. Faculty Basketball game. The faculty dazzled the crowd with some fancy passing, while the eighth graders showcased a variety of superstars and a memorable play that all in attendance will not soon forget. The camaraderie and energy that arise from shared experiences in the athletic program are among the many highlights of the Shore experience!
