Signatures Mark the Beginning of a New Tradition

What can a signature represent? It can mean approval. It can mean standing up for what you believe. It can mark the end of something. It can also mark the start of something.

A signature can mean a lot of things.

In early June, every member of the faculty, staff, administration, and, most importantly, student body at Shore put their signature on a House Scroll commemorating their membership as the inaugural members of their respective houses in our House System.

These scrolls were signed first by the youngest members of our community. The Lower School students met in their houses on Friday morning and signed their names on the house scroll. The gravitas of the moment was not lost on them. They took it seriously and understood that each signature will live on past their time at Shore. These students will be able to return to campus after graduating and see the scrolls and the mark they left behind. They will be able to remember with pride what house they were in and the friends they made while in their house.

Each Upper School grade gathered during project week and signed their house scroll together, leaving space at the very top for the 8th and 9th graders who stepped in as effective leaders in this new endeavor.

Their signatures mark a place in time. They mark their membership in something bigger than them as individuals.

These signatures mark the beginning of something that will exist for many years to come at Shore. That’s something worth commemorating.
