Pre-K Artwork is Showcased at the Wenham Museum
The Wenham Museum has once again invited Shore’s Pre-K students to display their artwork on the bulletin boards in the downstairs exhibit halls for the month of December.
“This exhibit is a perfect example of arts integration at Shore,” said Shore’s Art Department Chair and S.A.I.L. Teacher Betsey Holland.
Pre-K 1 Teacher Tracy Keith came up with the idea to present Shore student artwork at the Wenham Museum in 2020 to highlight the Pre-K program and increase Shore’s visibility. “It has been rewarding, encouraging, and exciting to see how this has come together over the past few years,” said Keith. “And the students and their families love seeing their art on display outside of Shore.”
This year, Keith’s class displayed magic wands that they made after students expressed their interest in fairies. In keeping with the Reggio Inspired approach used in Pre-K at Shore, child-led exploration, creativity, and collaboration are embraced and encouraged.
Pre-K 2 students in Beth White and Hannah Davis’ classes created a mixed-media collage using patterned paper, textured fabric, and other recycled materials. The Pre-K team utilized process art and their math focus on patterns and shapes to showcase their students' creativity and thoughtful work.
“The arts are an essential communication tool for young children, and our teachers understand and embrace that,” said Holland. “In this exhibit, the projects bring children's imagination to life. Whether learning about textiles or fairies, students at Shore can share their ideas in a variety of ways.”
