Harp and Hand Bells Help Ring in the Season

For Shore's 2016 Holiday Concert, the Shore Ringers played hand bells in two traditional arrangements, part of the festive program of music presented by student ensembles and choirs. Harpist Meg Hoffman, a sixth-grader, accompanied the Ringers for "In the Bleak Midwinter," with an arrangement by Upper School Music Director Jenn Boyum.

The concert began with Joey Tedesco leading the Chamber Ensemble on "Wenceslas Takes a Sleigh Ride", a contemporary twist on a traditional English carol, arranged by James Curnow. The Jazz Band followed with "Sleigh Ride," a swinging version of a holiday classic by James Anderson, arranged by Mike Story.

Two traditional numbers followed: The Chamber Ensemble returned with "Hannukah Holiday," and then Meg Hoffman opened "In the Bleak Midwinter" with a harp solo.

Next, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 5 and 6 performed "Sing and Dance It's Hannukah," accompanied by three percussionists; Concert Choir and the Shore Singers presented "The Bells"; Grades 1 and 2 sang "Winter Wonderland," with several students accompanying on sleigh bells; Grades 3 and 4 performed "Minka"; Shore Ringers played "Auld Lang Syne"; Acafellas and Puellae Cantantes performed the humorous "Text Me Merry Christmas" as well as "Carol of the Bells"; and Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 5 and 6 took the stage again to conclude the concert with "Bells of Christmas." Fittingly, several students played sleigh bells and handbells to ring out the performance.
