Annual Flag Raising Kicks Off the 2024-2025 School Year

As is tradition, the Shore community gathered together for the annual Flag Raising on the morning of September 3, 2024 to commemorate the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

There was an intangible sense of new beginnings in the air as the morning sun beat down and Head of School Amber Bock addressed the large crowd of students, faculty, staff, and families which had gathered in the center of campus for the ceremony. Bock kicked off the school year with a resounding message of positivity, graciously thanking the entire community, specifically the Buildings and Grounds crew, for all of their hard work over the summer and their dedication which made the upcoming school year possible.

Bock also took the time to introduce and recognize the incoming eighth grade class, congratulating them on their accomplishments during their time at Shore and encouraging them to embrace their new leadership roles within the community as they prepare for life after Shore. Fifth graders then stepped into their respective roles as Lower School leaders and performed a wonderful rendition of ‘America The Beautiful’ for the assembled crowd. Next came the climax of the event, where Director of Facilities John Borden carefully unfurled the American flag and, with the help of three students, hoisted the flag high to cheers and applause.

To conclude her address, Bock keyed in on Shore’s motto, ‘From Each Their Best’, and motivated the community as a whole to embody the mantra this year. “This call to excellence, effort, and self-reflection is echoed throughout so much of life at Shore, but further strengthening that focus and lifting up this commitment will be a worthy theme for the year ahead,” Bock said of the theme afterwards.

As the students rushed off to begin their new school year with the message still fresh in their minds, parents and caregivers were invited by the Shore Families Association (SFA) to remain on campus to enjoy a cup of coffee and engage with other community members. A great showing from the extended community, combined with Bock’s positive messaging, set the stage for a strong start to the school year!
